Negligence at Bagh Ali Mardan Khan Sub Division Office of PDD Draws Public Ire
Srinagar, November 29 : The Bagh Ali Mardan Khan Sub Division Office of the Power Development Department (PDD) is facing sharp criticism for its failure to address public grievances effectively. For over six months, the office has been citing a “malfunctioning computer system” as the reason for delays, leaving consumers in a state of distress and frustration.
Consumers seeking new connections report not receiving consumer IDs, while many existing customers claim they have not received electricity bills for months. Adding to the chaos, several residents have alleged that despite installing smart meters, their connections have not been made operational online, further compounding their troubles.
Renowned scholar Aga Syed Mujahid Hussain expressed his dismay at the state of affairs, remarking, “Employees here receive their salaries—funded by public taxes—on time, yet their inefficiency continues to burden the people.”
Social activist Hakim Suhail Abbas Kashmiri voiced concerns over the numerous complaints he has received. “Residents have visited the office repeatedly, only to be treated with disrespect, as if they were third-class citizens. Employees reportedly behave rudely, even stating, ‘We are not your servants.’ Such conduct is unacceptable,” Hakim stated.
He reminded government employees of their duty as public servants. “It is their responsibility to serve the people, not to dismiss or mistreat them,” he emphasized.
Hakim appealed to the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the concerned office to take immediate and effective action to resolve these pressing issues. “The grievances of the public must be addressed promptly and seriously before the situation escalates further,” he said.
The lack of accountability and the inefficiency of the Sub Division Office of PDD has caused widespread inconvenience, undermining public trust. It is imperative for the government to intervene and restore the efficiency and credibility of public services.
