DAP holds protest against “Land Eviction” order in Jammu
Jammu : Members of the Democratic Azad Party (DAP) held a protest at Panama Chowk in Jammu on Wednesday against a land eviction order issued by the J&K UT government. The protesters, numbering in the hundreds, marched to the Divisional Commissioner office and submitted a memorandum, calling for the revocation of the order.
According to DAP General Secretary R.S.Chib, the party held the protest on the instructions of Chairman DAP Ghulam Nabi Azad. Chib stated that the land in question was allotted to individuals through the legislature of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state under the Roshni act, according to The Chenab Times sources. He expressed disappointment that those who had benefited from the scheme were now being forced to vacate the land, despite the matter being sub judice before the High Court and Supreme Court.
Chib further stated that the government cannot force the eviction of individuals who have legally obtained ownership of the land. He called the order a brazen violation of human rights, creating panic among thousands of people who fear becoming homeless and landless overnight.
Vice Chairman G.M.Saroori added that when Ghulam Nabi Azad was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, he allotted the land to landless and homeless individuals to empower them economically. However, the present government seems intent on disempowering people by snatching away their resources.
Provincial President Jugal Kishore emphasized that DAP stands with the people who are being victimized by this executive order and that only elected governments can decide the fate of people. He stated that the party’s agenda is to empower local people and that they will continue to fight for the restoration of statehood, secure jobs, and land rights.
