Junaid Azim Mattu Resigns from Jammu Kashmir Apni Party
Srinagar : In a surprising turn of events, Junaid Azim Mattu, a prominent leader of the Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), has officially resigned from the party. The announcement came just days after Mattu was declared the party’s candidate for the Zadibal constituency.
Mattu took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday night to share the news, stating that his decision was made after thorough consultations with his supporters.
“It is with a heavy heart, and with all humility, that I announce my decision to part ways with the J&K Apni Party,” Mattu wrote. He further noted that the party is now free to select another candidate for the Zadibal segment.
Reflecting on his recent Hajj pilgrimage, Mattu emphasized that his decision was deeply influenced by a solemn vow he made during the spiritual journey. “I had pledged to uphold my convictions and to engage in politics guided by my principles and a clear sense of right and wrong,” he explained.
Mattu expressed his gratitude towards JKAP leader Syed Altaf Bukhari, acknowledging Bukhari’s kindness and support. However, he pointed out that his personal convictions no longer align with the party’s ideology. “In such a scenario, continuing with the party or contesting elections as its candidate would be disingenuous,” he added.
Mattu also announced that he will hold a press conference in the coming days to discuss his future plans and answer any questions from the media.
