National Conference (NC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, speaking on the 42nd death anniversary of his father, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, took a firm stance against recent remarks by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Referring to Shah’s statements made in Jammu, Dr. Farooq declared that the NC, in alliance with Congress, remains steadfast in their commitment to restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

“We are not intimidated by what the Home Minister has said. The NC and Congress are resolute, and the day will come when J&K will regain its full statehood,” Dr. Farooq stated during an interaction with reporters at the Hazratbal mausoleum, where party leaders, including his son Omar Abdullah, paid homage to the late Sheikh Abdullah.

Responding to Shah’s claim that NC and Congress cannot achieve statehood restoration, Dr. Farooq dismissed the assertion, stating, “Time will prove them wrong.”

Taking further jabs at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dr. Farooq criticized its handling of the situation in J&K following the abrogation of Article 370, questioning the claim that terrorism would be eradicated. “Has terrorism ended? In fact, it has only become a bigger challenge, and they [the BJP] are responsible for this,” he remarked.

On BJP’s strategy in Jammu, the NC leader accused the party of using fear tactics to influence voters. “First, they used Lord Ram for votes, and now they are trying to create fear among Jammu voters. But the people of Jammu are wise and will know who to vote for,” he asserted.

The remarks come amid escalating political tensions, as the battle for J&K’s future continues to unfold.
