Pulwama, 2023 January 11: Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Shri Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary flagged off an awareness rally to observe the week long Road Safety Week under “Swachhata Pakhwada” 2023.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer Pulwama Shri Moazam Ali, Inspector MVD, Media persons and other Traffic Officers were present on the occasion.
The rally was taken out from the bus stand Drussu and passed through main roads of the District.
Speaking on the occasion, DC said that this Road safety week is being organized under the aegis of Swachhata Pakhwada” a concept inspired by Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision to engage all Departments in Swachhata related activities, thereby making Swachhata “everyone’s business”. DC said that “Road Safety Week” is organized in order to create awareness among general public to improve the safety on road, to educate people about the road safety measures and to give an opportunity to all stakeholders to contribute to the cause of road safety
The DC further said the purpose of road safety week celebration is to make people aware of their duties on road. He said road mishaps could be prevented only by following traffic rules. He appealed to drivers to use helmet and seat belt without fail. Our motto shouldn’t be to reduce the deaths but to ensure that no accident shall happen, DC added.
On the occasion the Deputy Commissioner stressed on the importance of Road Safety and imbibing it as a way of life and not confining it to a mere slogan.
While addressing the gathering, the DDC said that the main objective of organizing road safety week is to involve community in promoting road safety awareness and to disseminate information about traffic rules to the last stakeholder.
He stressed upon the department to continue the activities on sustain basis throughout the year so that the message becomes truly effective. He also appealed to the people to follow traffic rules to avoid traffic mess in the town. He said that the traffic officials would act as messenger and disseminate the information about the ethics of driving and MVD should act at gross root level.
He further assured all possible support for carrying out such awareness programs on regular basis along with strict enforcement of traffic laws and appealed to the general public to cooperate in the mission of road safety by being vigilant and reporting the incidents of violation to the authorities.
DC said that the focus shall also be on educating the passenger vehicle drivers and refreshing their driving skills and making them aware of the latest road safety practices and the ways to save lives in case of emergency by providing first aid. DC further stressed upon MVD to deal strictly with the violators.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Pulwama Muazzam Ali, who was present on the occasion urged the cooperation from transporters and civil society members to ensure better transport facilities in the district.
He stressed upon the drivers not to use cell phones while driving to avoid accidents.
“Motorists must avoid over speeding, rash and negligent driving so that precious lives can be saved,” he said.
He said these events are organized every year to aware people about the safe driving.
He said that major reason of accidents are carelessness, driving by minors and drink/drugs and driving cases.
Pertinent to mention here that the week is being celebrated throughout Indian on the direction of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) under Swachhata Pakhwada” aims to create awareness among the general public to improve the safety on road and further reduce road accidents by 50% in the next 10 years to safeguard the precious human lives.
‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ is a concept inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision to engage all central government ministries and departments in “swachhta” related activities, and making it “everyone’s business”.
