HE Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche, members of Haj Committee Ladakh call on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd)
Leh, February 25, 2023: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) met His Eminence (HE) Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche at Raj Niwas.
HE Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche apprised the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh of various activities being conducted by him under the auspices of the Drukpa lineage other than spiritualism. HE Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche informed that his primary focus is on improving the quality of education in Ladakh, especially for underprivileged children from Ladakh. He also informed about the Druk Padma Karpo School at Shey being run by him, where more than 950 students are currently pursuing their studies.
HE Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche informed about the one-year Naropa Fellowship Programme for graduates, where faculties from across the world teach the students about entrepreneurship, society and culture, communication and personal development. He also informed that many Naropa fellows have started their own ventures and units. He further informed about the sterilisation and animal rescue activities conducted by them through the Live to Rescue organisation.
HE Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche informed about the plantation of a few lakh tree saplings in Ladakh by the volunteers and followers of the Drukpa lineage and various other activities conducted by them for the conservation of the environment.
A delegation from Haj Committee Ladakh comprising its Chairperson, Shri Mohd Ali Majaz and members-Shri Mohd Ali Chandan, Shri Nazir Ahmed and Shri Mirza Hussain- met Lieutenant Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at Raj Niwas.
Shri Mohd Ali Majaz informed the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh about the formation of the Haj Committee Ladakh comprising six members almost two months ago. He also informed that the headquarter of the Haj Committee is at Kargil. He further informed that the last date for submitting online applications for Haj pilgrims is the first week of March.
Shri Mohd Ali Majaz requested for assistance in setting up the Haj Committee Office and increase in the quota of Ladakh Haj pilgrims. He also requested for capacity-building trainings for the members of the Haj Committee to enable them to provide the best possible services to the Haj pilgrims. He requested that some of the members may be allowed to accompany Haj pilgrims for their assistance during their journey.
