Delegation from unemployed veterinary doctor association & dental surgeons working on honorarium basis call on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd)

Leh, March 18, 2023: A delegation from Unemployed Veterinary Doctor Association of Ladakh led by its President, Dr Tsewang Dolma, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas.

Dr Tsewang Dolma informed HLG about the need to form the association comprising around 30 unemployed veterinarians. She also informed that earlier the recruitment for the posts of veterinary doctors was conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) but no such recruitment drive has been conducted after the formation of Ladakh as a union territory. She further requested the need to frame recruitment rules for gazetted posts at the earliest so that recruitment to such posts could be conducted soon.

HLG advised the Unemployed Veterinary Doctor Association of Ladakh to open a few private veterinary clinics in different parts of Ladakh to set a new trend and promote start-ups in Ladakh as not everybody could be provided government jobs. These private clinics will provide jobs to the unemployed veterinarians from Ladakh, he said. He assured to expedite the recruitment drives.

A delegation comprising dental surgeons from Kargil working on an honorarium basis led by Dr Shabir called on HLG at Raj Niwas. Dr Shabir informed that around 20 dental surgeons from Kargil have been working in the Health Department for the past five-and-a-half years. He also informed that they performed duties with full dedication in distant remote areas of Ladakh during their five-year tenure as dental surgeons. He further informed HLG that the Department has informed that there won’t be any further extensions.

Dr Shabir raised the issue of non-recruitment for the post of dental surgeon in the last 14 years despite various vacant posts of dental surgeons and medical officers in the Health Department, Kargil. They requested for extension of their tenure as dental surgeons.

HLG informed the dental surgeons working on an honorarium basis that the UT Administration will frame a policy to provide equal opportunity to all. He also highlighted the importance of coming up with their own start-ups due to limited government jobs. He also suggested the dental surgeons should start their own dental clinics.
